Gwen has had a hard life with many difficult circumstances that have made her a hard woman, who sometimes makes decisions others don’t understand. Thankfully McKayla is in her life to help keep her grounded and is the woman who helps her keep her head when all else seems lost.
Then one day, a man comes into Gwen’s life that makes things take an unexpected twist and makes her face the demons of her past.
Will this man help Gwen become a stronger woman or will it break her completely?
First let me start off by saying that this book is steamy hot. The chemistry between Gwen and Cole will set you on fire. The chemistry between Gwen and McKayla was explosive so I knew that the chemistry when all 3 got together was going to rock my world – and it did!!
At first I wasn’t sure about this one because I kept waiting for something to happen. Something to give me a bit of an insight on what the book was going to be about and what the character, Gwen, was going through or had gone through or was about to go through. I was scared I wasn’t going to like it and it was going to end up being one I either forced myself to finish or one that I wouldn’t be able to finish – but holy smokes when it got going it took off like a bullet.
“It’s killing YOU. Right. No, you don’t get to hurt me the way you did then just show back up in my life more than a year later and think it’ll all just be forgiven. None of your pretty words will make it right. It doesn’t work that way. I’m not the same girl I was then. I’ve learned a lot about who I am and what I need from the people in my life.”
Gwen is broken from living so many years in hell growing up and not having a safe place to turn. Now that she is on her own her past has molded her present and how she copes with what happened to her really shocked me but after learning about her and getting to know her through this book I understood why she did what she did. I am surprised that she isn’t more messed up than what she is. Gwen literally went through hell and coming out alive just proved to me what a strong character she is. She doesn’t trust people which didn’t surprise me, she doesn’t love men which too didn’t surprise me but the moment she met Cole something inside her changed, something told her that it is okay to open your heart to man and that not all men are the same.
I loved McKayla, she is not only Gwen’s girlfriend and best friend but she seemed to be her rock. It was McKayla and Gwen against the world – the only person that Gwen could trust. Having somewhat similar pasts they learned to heal each other in the only way they know how and it was beautiful. McKayla loves Gwen with everything in her and the only thing she wants is to see Gwen happy and she would do anything to make that happen.
But nothing ever goes right in Gwen’s live so when her happy bubble she has build around her and Cole pops she slumps back into being the shell of a person she was before meeting Cole. And like with everything else she does that scares her, she runs and she runs hard and fast. Time passes, lives are changed but there is still this undeniable attention between Cole and Gwen and it just doesn’t seem like anything can keep them apart. It’s electric.
“But as usual you show up and I can’t think straight. Don’t get me wrong, I am aggressive with my business and I was angry with you when you showed up today, but I can’t just let you slip away again without making sure you know what happened. And you kept running from me when I tried to speak to you. Don’t run from me. Have patience with me, please.”
I was shocked with the turn of events that popped up in Yearning Devotion. Rachael really threw us a curveball and it sucked me in. After finding out about the horrible past that Gwen endured that should have killed her but only made her stronger my heart sank and shock overtook my body when her past came creeping back and smacked her dead in the face. It was like I was holding my breath waiting for it to be a joke but only to figure out that it was very real and Gwen was in trouble.
My heart broke all over again for her because knowing she survived it once but not knowing if she could survive it again, I was scared for her. I wanted her McKayla and Cole to make everything better for her and make it go away.
So to wrap it up, with Yearning Devotion Rachael brought us all a bit of this….
And then we got Cole so we even got a bit of this…
And when that curve ball came flying into you she had me saying….
So overall for the story line, the steamy scenes, the characters I give Yearning Devotion 4 mega big oh shit stars and I leave you with this…
