Ena’s 5 Star Review
I am blown away! You come across a book from time to time that you feel will stay with you forever and this book did that to me. The passion and honesty within the pages was beautiful. The characters were real and you felt their fears and their struggles. Melissa did such an amazing job pulling you in and had me falling in love with Araya Noelle and Ryland Dare!
First we meet Araya and you can tell something is broken inside you from the very start. After going through a tragedy that would crush most people she survives it. She isn’t living anymore but she survived none the less. She is lost and the light that once shined so brightly within her is dull and all she needs is for a special person to come into her life and give her a reason to start living again, to finally take a deep breath and take the next step and move forward and light that candle that died within her so many years ago. Araya is stronger than she gives herself credit for and she is truly beautiful inside and out. Always there to lend a helping hand to anyone, and even though life has been anything but kind to her she doesn’t complain. She is kind and gentle but sometimes just needs that extra push to get her going again. She never believed in love and doesn’t think it’s in the cards for her. Until him…..
Oh Ryland – my hero! Not your typical rich kid – this man has a big heart that is bursting to be seen. Growing up privileged and getting everything you basically want hasn’t turned this man into a snob. He doesn’t do love but he is very honest with the girls he spends his time with in what he is looking and not looking for. Growing up in a house with and mother and father that are so self absorbed and never has shown an ounce of love toward their children will make a person not believe in love. He has never met anyone that has caused him to feel anything other than a little bit of excitement in the member downstairs. He is honest and kind and has just big plans for his future and you will instantly be pulled towards him. His plans are to attend college and survive in his house until his baby sister heads to college and then cut ties with his parents and live the life he wants to live. He never saw love in the near future, if ever, until her…..
“If only you could see what I see…then you’d understand why –“ He stopped.
“Why what?” I whispered.
He sighed. “Why I wouldn’t change a thing about you and you shouldn’t want to either. You’re original and that’s my favorite thing about you.”
The chemistry and passion between them is magical and I found myself grinning throughout a lot of their encounters. Ryland was her prince, her hero, and she needed him to push her to challenge herself and make herself whole again. She needed him to show her that she was as beautiful on the outside and she is on the inside, and she needed to him to show her that he couldn’t save her, she had to save herself. I still get goose bumps thinking about those two.
“Because you’re too damn addicting, hummingbird. Everything about you…I’m always left wanting more. I want all of you, all the time, every day, and the more I’m with you, the strong the craving gets.”
You will watch a beautiful relationship grow right before your eyes and you will be stuck reading page after page without wanting to put the book down. Ryland has his secrets and past regrets that he isn’t proud of, and Araya has her demons – they will have to overcome those together and hopefully stay intact throughout the process. It’s a beautiful rocky road and they fight every single step of the way. With so many people against them they will have to fight even harder to make it work. Sometimes though fighting isn’t enough and love isn’t enough.
“What did you do?” I demanded.
He didn’t even bat an eye when he said, “She wasn’t good enough for you.”
“That wasn’t your damn choice to make!” I growled.
“I was doing what was in your best interest, Ryland. She would have ruined you. You’ll thank me one day.”
Grab some tissues for this one because you will most definitely need them.
Is the love between Ryland and Araya strong enough to withstand the ugliness that surrounds them? Will Araya finally start to realize that she is beautiful the way she is, and she isn’t a burden on Ryland or will she walk away from the only man she has ever loved knowing that it might just be in their best interest? Can Ryland show Araya that what they have is real and they can overcome anything and grow stronger together as one? Sometimes love isn’t enough and sometimes timing isn’t right.
“You don’t have to do this, Araya.”
“Yes, I do, Ryland. I know you don’t understand, but it has to be this way.”
You really need to read this masterpiece you need to experience a love like no other, a bond that is unbreakable and you need to see what Araya see’s when she is looking at The Edge of Darkness!
