Searching for Moore by Julie Richman

SFM

Attended by reality TV star wannabes and Southern California social climbers, Schooner Moore knows the party his wife is throwing for his forty-third birthday has little to do with him and everything to do with her social standing in Orange County. The evening turns out to hold more surprises than just his wife’s Botoxed friends groping at his privates, when a conversation with his old college roommate, Beau, reveals the biggest surprise of the night.

Beau has had contact on Facebook with Mia Silver. Just hearing her name sends Schooner into a tailspin, as he is now just a Friend Request away from the one who got away when she disappeared without a goodbye, leaving him wondering why she left.

A serial failure at romance, Manhattan boutique ad agency owner, Mia, gets a blindside of her own when a Facebook Friend Request from first love, Schooner, appears in her email. Going with her gut reaction, Mia hits accept, propelling her past to catch up with her in a New York minute, as a forceful Schooner is determined to understand what tore them apart and to explore the possibility of a second chance at love.

From a 1980’s Southern California college campus and a devastating first love to present day New York City, Searching for Moore explores how technology has eradicated the divide between our past and our present, and asks whether you would give up everything to reconnect with The One in a single keystroke?

Schooner Moore:  Oh Schooner, Schooner, Schooner!  He is every woman’s fantasy come true.  He is strong, sexy, determined, passionate, caring, trustworthy, and charismatic.  He made me tingle and sweat in a very naughty and good way.  I loved everything about him from his 6 foot plus tall body to his just fucked sexy hair.  Schooner is the All American man who loves with his whole heart when he meets that special someone.

Mia Silver:  aka BBC!  In her young age she is reserved and shy, a bit timid if you will. All grown up she is sexy, snarky, feisty and will tell you what she wants and will put you in your place if need be.  She is passionate, strong, determined, sexy and driven.  She too loves with her whole heart and will do anything for the people she cares about.

Yoli: I love Yoli mainly because she hates CJ, and the feeling is mutual.  She loves Schooner and only wants him to be happy.  She is trusting and a great friend.  She cares deeply and will go out of her way to make the people she loves happy.

CJ: BITCH!  Yep you heard me loud and clear.  With a capital B I T C H!  She feels like she is God’s gift to everyone.  Stuck up, vindictive, manipulative, and just your typical men girl.  She will plow down anyone in her way to get what she wants and is very self centered.

Seth and Kami:   Both are very loyal friends to Mia and all she wants is to see Mia happy!  They are very protective of Mia.  Seth will tell Mia exactly how it is, knowing it’s for her own good.  Kami is a very loyal friend and will always back Mia 100%.  Seth is a girl’s best friend and knows exactly what Mia needs in her life to be happy.

Holly and Zac:  Holly is sweet and loving and only wants to see Schooner happy no matter what that entails.  She is loyal to her friends and family and a bright and easy going girl.  Zac is a jerk.  He is very self centered and believes everything revolves around Zac.  He doesn’t deal with change very well and will go out of his way to make you know when he doesn’t like something or doesn’t agree with something.

Storyline:

Sometimes love will come around twice and when you lose it the first time you fight tooth and nail to grab it and keep it the second time around.  This is exactly the story of Mia and Schooner.  Meeting freshman year of college they were total opposites.  Mia is carefree and does what she wants when she wants.  She doesn’t adjust herself to fit the mold people think she should be.  She is herself and comfortable with that.  After meeting Mia, Schooner knows that he is living a lie.  He is acting and being the person everyone around him thinks he should be.  He isn’t truly himself other than when he is around Mia.  With Mia he can be himself and knows that Mia likes him the way he is.  He doesn’t have to hide and that’s a breath of fresh air for him.

–Schooner Moore had no fucking idea who he really was. – Searching for Moore

CJ and Schooner “date” if you will throughout college because they just look right together.  Schooner knows she is not the love of his life but with living a lie he stays with her knowing that everyone else expects them to end up together but his first love is and will always be Mia Sullivan.  After circumstances arise and Mia and Schooner are separated going their own way living their own lives never knowing what could have been.  Mia moving on in New York, becoming a successful business owner and Schooner marrying the devil spawn (CJ), also is successful in his professional world but lonely and empty in his marriage.

–And that’s when it dawned on him that he didn’t even have her number.  He was going to get all that info before she left and give her his.  And now she was gone.  Just gone.  And he had no way to find her.  No way to find out what had happened.  No way to find out why she had left him.  When they said goodbye last night, everything was fine.  They were going to spend her birthday on Fire Island… together.  And now she was gone, without a trace.  – Searching for Moore

“Come back to me.  Just be there in August.  We’ll make it right.  Baby Girl, come back to me.”

Jump 20+ years and a Facebook friends request later and Mia and Schooner and thrown back into each other lives both grown mature adults but the feelings are still there.  With such a deep connection and love they have to end up together right?  Having gone through so much together during college knowing that they were meant to be together forever the sparks surely would still fly after 20 years.  It was destiny, their fate, to go their separate ways and live part of their lives and reconnect after a few decades.

–You were my high, Mia.  You taught me how to let me be myself and to like that guy and that is probably the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.  Ever.  And you liked that guy too and that made my heart soar.  I wanted you to like me, not Mr. Hotshot Tennis God.  I wanted you to like me.  And it was when we were on that mountaintop together, that I was actually able to put it all together.  I was in love and it hit me like a brick or maybe a snowball.  I had fallen in love with you.”

Life is never easy though and CJ being the bitch she is will never let Schooner go without a fight.  She has a way at getting exactly what she wants.  She knows what buttons to push with Mia and will push every single one of them to get Schooner back.  Mia is not that little naive girl anyone.  She won’t fall for CJ’s crap again like she did so long ago.  She won’t let Schooner go without a fight and she may just be in the fight of her life.  Nothing is ever easy in life but the things that aren’t easy are the ones with the sweetest rewards.

–Mia’s panic was descending on her like a thick fog.  Oh my God, she said to me on the phone that he always goes back to her.  She said that they were a family.  He’s going back to his family. – Searching for Moore

Will Mia and Schooner finally get their happily ever after that has been in the making for over 20 years?  Will Schooner finally be able to be himself and be happy?  Will Mia finally get the love of her life back and have all her dreams come true?  Or will CJ’s manipulative ways get her what she wants again and have Schooner running back to her and leaving Mia heartbroken?

Julie Richman brought me a wonderful love story.  Love is not always easy and live is not always fair.  You don’t always get what you want and sometimes you just have to learn to deal with that the best you can.  The connection between Mia and Schooner is so beautiful and so strong that you can’t help but root them on the entire story.  I am so glad that I read Searching for Moore and I can’t wait for more.  I will tell you that I loved every bit of this story and I know you will too.  It will be “smoochal”!
