Book Review: Hidden In Lies (Lies and Truth Book 1) by Rachael Duncan

Synopsis Who needs love when you have money?
It used to be enough, but now it’s not.
Not since he walked into my life and made me question everything.
Now I want more, but I know that’s impossible.
Things aren’t always as they seem.
My true self is hidden, and that works for me.
Or it did.
I hide in a bed of deception to disguise myself, and I’m good at it.
Or I was.
I’m Elizabeth Fitzgerald.
I’m a Senator’s wife.
And I hate my life.

When I was given the opportunity to read Hidden in Lies I read the synopsis, and thought to myself it doesn’t really give away much about the story, so I took the chance and boy was happy about that decision the story was amazing. Take the chance and read it you will not be disappointed, fair warning I’m saying the dreaded word “CLIFF HANGER”, it ends with a bang one I didn’t see coming. Book 2 is expected June 2015, so far away but in the end worth the wait. The heroine of the story Elizabeth grew up believing everything her mother told her was true, like every little girl thinks their mother is always right. Elizabeth and her parents were not wealthy, they lived pay check to pay check. Which bill was most important for that month was it the electricity or water bill, etc…One day while listening to her parents argue about money/bills, Elizabeth learned a valuable lesson marry for money because in the end love doesn’t pay the bills. She also learned that security and stability were more important than love.Fast forward to the future Elizabeth is twenty nine, married to Senator Callahan Fitzgerald who’s thirty six. Cal comes from a wealthy family, one can say Elizabeth did what she learned that day as a teenager she married for money. Was she happy no she most defiantly was not if security and stability are so important, then why is she so miserable.
You may ask why does she stay, I wondered the same thing and I didn’t have any sympathy for her, she made her bed now she has to lie in it. Once her reasoning’s do come out your opinion of her will change because mine did I felt for her and shed some tears.Cal I have nothing nice to say about him, he’s an ass, selfish, demeaning piece of shit. The way he acts and treats his wife is despicable.Alex Matthews is the saving grace in this story, I loved him from the beginning. Alex is hired as a bodyguard by Cal after a break in their home. Once Alex starts his position Cal decides to run for President. Things for Elizabeth at home become much worse, the burden of playing the perfect, plastic wife are starting to take a toll on her emotionally, how much more can she take.
Alex and Elizabeth form a friendship she starts to trust him as time goes on, he sees the real Elizabeth not the fake one, he makes her see things in life are different. The attraction they have for each other is undeniable, but they both fight it off.Hidden in Lies is a not your typical romance story, I had no idea what was going to happen to any of the character’s. I defiantly knew there would be no happy ending with this being book 1 in the series. Once I got to the ending there were so many twist and turns I didn’t see happing, and the epilogue blew me away it was 2 small paragraphs told in Alex’s POV. The story is written entirely in Elizabeth’s POV.

“He doesn’t see the beautiful soul you are, or the brilliant mind you have. He doesn’t cherish and worship you like he should. I could be that guy for you. I want to be that guy for you. “
