From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
There are some books that make you laugh, others that make you swoon, and some may even bring tears to your eyes….then there is Confess. I laughed out loud at some of the quirky comments made between Auburn and Owen, I swooned just thinking about them being together, and I absolutely balled my eyes out. The thing about a Colleen Hoover novel is you have to expect the unexpected. Prepare yourself for something you have NEVER read before and had no idea that this was where the story was taking you. Because Colleen is an artist. An artist with her words. Her vision is beyond anything you could ever imagine and for that reason I will ALWAYS be a HUGE fan and read EVERYTHING she writes!
“How can a fifteen-year-old girl defend her love when that love is dismissed by everyone?”
At the young age of fifteen, Auburn Reed lost her first love…her first everything. And five years later she is still in love with him and alone. Moving to Dallas was what she had to do. Being so far away from her family isn’t easy, but this is where her life has to be. Working as a hairdresser is not her ideal job, but making money is all she is focused on. So when a help wanted sign on a random building she is walking by past catches her attention, she can’t ignore the need for more income. What she wasn’t prepared for was the beautiful artist that stepped out of that building and begged her to help him out.
“She seems a lot like me. A loner, a thinker, an artist with her life.”
Owen Gentry needed help. His employee/girlfriend recently broke up with him and quit, so he is desperate. But as soon as he steps out to beg the young lady reading the confessions taped to his windows and she says her name, he realizes exactly who she is. Who she has to be, after all these years why now did she show up at his doorstep? He is mesmerized by her. Intrigued by the way she lights up looking and touching his artwork and reading the confession left by the many people who pass by his studio.
“Tonight, everyone’s focus is on my art, but my focus is on her. She’s the most interesting piece in this entire room.”
The attraction between them is evident from the first moment. The pull they each have on one another can be felt with every word that is said. But they are both keeping huge secrets that could ruin any chance they have. They fall for each other without a second thought, but some things are just not meant to be for too many reasons. Slowly we learn what is truly at stake for each of them if they give in to what they feel for each other. Lives could be ruined. People they care about lives destroyed. How much is too much. How do you know when to walk away and when to keep fighting for what you want…need?
“I’m scared I’ll never feel this again with anyone else,” I whisper. He squeezes my hands. “I’m scared you will.”
*Sigh* Oh the feels…the beautiful, emotional, heartfelt FEELS! Colleen has brought the feels to an all new level. The only thing I wanted was to connect a little more with Auburn and Owen. (and some of the supportive characters) I needed more of their personalities and what made them who they are. This does not take away from the creative and beautiful story that Confess is, because it is a work of art. This is one of those books that you just MUST READ, to fully understand how deep the emotions are.
