Let Love In (In Love Series #1) by Melissa Collins

What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can’t get hurt if she doesn’t fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy’s pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy’s inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Ena’s 3 1/2 Star Review:

Madeleine Becker has lost everyone in her life that she truly loves so guarding her heart and not letting love in is the only way she can guarantee not having her heart broken again. After losing her parents in a car accident she was shipped off to live with her aunt whom she had never met and move away from everything she had ever known to be her home. Quickly making great friends Mel they were inseparable during their young child years and throughout their teenage years. After ending things with her not so serious boyfriend right before moving off to college with Mel, Maddy decides to start a new life in college. She wants to choose to be happy, look at the good in things without focusing on the bad, and the most important let love in.

Maddy is such a sweet character – you will instantly fall in love with her for everything she has gone through with losing both of her parents at such a young age and knowing how broken her heart is from it. Even though she keeps herself guarded I still felt like I wanted to protect her from any harm and I didn’t want her to hurt anyone than she was already hurting and didn’t want her breaking anymore than she was already broken. When it came to me and Maddy I was most defiantly feeling a bit aggressive to anyone who came along and may cause her harm. I had my game face on and was ready to brawl. Mess with my girl Maddy and prepare for this…

Well of course there has to be a oh so very bad boy who surprisingly may melt your heart and make you swoon, right? Of course what romance book would be complete without our very own Reid Connely. When Maddy first saw Reid everything in her body ignited and…..

There was something running between them that she couldn’t explain and for once she thought that maybe she can finally be happy and finally learn how to let the walls surrounding her heart down and invite someone into her life and learn how to love again.

Reid is very very extremely drop your wet panties sexy and even though he has that bad boy edge to him, I think deep down he has a sweeter side that he doesn’t show because of his own past that he hasn’t learned how to deal with. Can Maddy and Reid heal each other? I don’t know because sometimes throughout the book Reid seriously was making me….

The development of the story between Maddy and Reid blossomed at a wonderful pace. The connection was instant but the true feelings were built throughout the story. They had their ups and downs like any normal couple and at times I was questioning if they were truly right for each other.

So here I am reading along minding my own business and enjoying the story, thinking everything is working out just peachy when Melissa decides to throw us a curve ball and BAM it leaves me….

Maddy has her issues with letting people in but Reid holds dark secrets deep down inside that he isn’t willing to tell anyone even Maddy and that alone could break them. From the very beginning you will think that this story is about Maddy growing up and breaking out of her shell that she built around herself but surprisingly it is also about Reid learning to trust again and learning that sometimes things that happen truly are not your fault and there comes a point in your life when you need to learn to let go of the past and move on with your future.

Overall this is a beautiful story about 2 young people that weren’t given the greatest hand in life and they had to learn to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and move forward and actually live. The past is the past and you can’t change it and it will never go away. However, you can learn from the past and understand that the life you have is your own and it’s up to you on how you live it, nobody can truly love you or make you happy unless you learn to love yourself and make yourself happy. Melissa did a wonderful job of bringing two different souls together and having them lean on each other and learn how to grow while gaining strength from each other.
