Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.

Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.

A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.

~Amanda’s 5 Star Thoughts~

Okay…. I think I have recovered and I am ready to write this review?!?! *sigh*  Actually I am still flipping out!!! Emerge is the first book in the Evolve Series, and I CAN’T WAIT to read the next book!  This book grabbed me from the first page and held me all the way til the end.

Laney is so sweet, I just loved her personality!  She was so kind and caring, but also funny and witty with a back bone!  Her best friend is Evan and he has been by her side since they were 10 years old.

“Daddy, please. I didn’t tear him up that bad… I didn’t have to.” “And why is that?”…… Principal Mills answers for me. “Cause Evan Allen did it for her.”

They have been growing up together, side by side, but Laney has never really noticed how boys see her. She is a tomboy who baits her own hook, plays softball, and drives a truck.  Her and Evan have always been together as best friends but now Evan has decided that it is time to show her that she is his everything and that there is so much more than friendship between them.  He is in love with her!

“Laney, you’re that girl. The one guys make up in their head when they put all the best parts together to make one perfect girl.”

“I’ve dreamed of kissing her since I was 10 years old. I knew it wouldn’t be the same when and if it ever happened… it isn’t.”

But it is soon time for them to go to college and they are going to be miles apart at different colleges.  Laney is convinced it is better if they go off to school as just friends.  She believes that this is the smartest decision to protect her heart.  I was literally dying reading this part, you could feel the pain they were both in by being separated!  I was so torn up!  But Laney pushes forward and decides it is time for her to stand on her own, without Evan or her father.  While at college, due to her new roommate Bennett’s pushing she starts to open up and meets Dane.  I was immediately Team Dane!!!  You could feel the chemistry between them and it was such a mature and real connection.  Dane is the gorgeous, sexy as hell, mysterious man that you just want to get swept off your feet by, and whew he got me!  He is so caring and always knows just what Laney needs!

“No harm will come to you whenever I’m around, I swear it.  Welcome to college, Laney; welcome to life.”

“The minute I met her — I was all in.”

Throughout the book there is a love triangle and Laney is struggling to decipher her feelings for both Dane and Evan.  She feels secure with Evan, but she craves Dane!  She needs to figure out who she would choose, if they were both able to be with her everyday!  Who is she “in love” with! Who has her soul?!?!  This is the tale of friendship, loyalty, first love, true love… and life!

Amazing book!  Beautifully written! You must read this book, it is absolutely UN-PUT-DOWN-ABLE! It will leave you feeling giddy with love, and then in the next breath screaming NOOOOO and wanting more!!!
