Book Review – Beautiful Ink (Forever Inked #1) by Nicole Reed

Beautiful Ink Cover

This novel is not a cliffhanger and can be read as a stand-alone.

WARNING:  This book is real, beautifully raw, and not for the faint of heart. It is the story of a young girl’s loss of innocence while growing up around a motorcycle club. It is not suitable for children under the age of seventeen due to language, sexual content, and intense subject matter. Based on true events.

I have tattooed that single word on more skin than I care to count. It elicits powerful thoughts and emotions for most people.

Loving.                 Caring.
Supportive.             Togetherness.

But not for me. The word family means so much more.

Vicious.                Harmful.
Dangerous.              Corrupt.

You can’t run forever from the ones who love you.

5 Star Review

Beautiful Ink is not your average MC book. While it does have that element, it is not the sole focus like most MC books, but is more focused around the character of Helen “Keller” Rudder. It is written very well and brings together her past and present all in one.

Helen didn’t know anything other than the MC life, when tragedy strikes at a young age she is forced to deal with situations well before her time. As she grows up she starts to see that the club is not what she wants to be apart of. She finds herself forced deeper into it than she would like. She’s torn because as much as she hates what the club stands for, she does not want to leave the one person in it that has always been there for her.

“I wanted to love the MC as much as he did, but instead it left me hating something that took him away from me”

Holden is a tough as nails kid turned alpha male, raised to follow in his fathers footsteps and eventually become President of the club. While he may not always agree with what has to be done, he knows that’s the way of it and nothing he can do to change it. He loves Helen with all his heart and would do anything to keep her happy.

Helen is on the run trying to keep a low profile, bouncing from town to town. She knows to not get attached because she never knows when she is gonna have to pick up and leave again. This time is different. She finds she has come to love the town she is in and the people she works with. She meets a man named Vin, her complete opposite who shakes her to the core and turns her world upside down. Can she open herself and reveal the secrets that could ultimately harm them both?

“The moment is one of beauty, deeply appreciated by someone who doesn’t have very many happy childhood memories”

I love this story and how it goes back and forth between her past and present. You really get a feel for all that Helen went through while in the care of the club. She is tough as nails, smart and confident. I am astounded that she is not broken or how she hasn’t simply given up. This is the ultimate love triangle and I cant decide if I’m Team Holden, Team Vin or both.

“Happy isn’t just a state of mental awareness: it’s a whole new life for me”

I love this new spin on a very popular Genre. I totally dig me an MC series, and this was refreshing and completely unexpected. I started this book without reading anything about it, only a friend recommendation telling me that it was an MC book. While it was my first book that I have read by Nicole, I can say it will definitely not be my last =)
