Book Review: Shade (The Last Riders #6) by Jamie Begley

Want, need, pain, and joy were emotions Shade had never known existed before Lily. He knew the first time he saw her face that she was going to change his life forever. The thing he hadn’t expected was how hard it would be to hide who and what he was from her. Each step he took out of the shadows revealed more of himself, until only one secret remained. Shade arrogantly believed he could help heal the wounds from her past, but now it was his own past that was trying to tear them apart. To keep Lily, Shade would have to use the very skills he had been trying to hide from her. The skills that made him a killer … a soulless monster.

Throughout the Last Riders series we’ve discovered more and more about Shade and his internal struggles. We’ve seen his patience in waiting for Lily, and seen Lily blossom into an amazing woman who has survived HELL on Earth and still managed to be a beautiful soul who cares about those around her. I loved this book because no only did it fill us in on what Shade was thinking along the way, we got to see more of each of the previous stories in the series. While the book may not have added to the story line progressively, it did a beautiful job in retroactively enhancing the plot of not only Lily and Shade but the Last Riders as a group. I can only hope that all the broken girls out there find a Shade to love them the way that Lily has PS I still hate BLISS … even if I do understand her more.
