Duke Morgan owns and operates one of the largest bail bond companies in Atlanta. Not only does he bond criminals out of jail, he and his notorious group of bounty hunters will also track them down and ensure they show up for court.
Roman ‘Quick’ Webb is Duke’s business partner and best friend. Both men are in their forties and have given up on the happily ever after with the ranch-style home, and white picket fence. They’d both tried it and failed miserably. But they have their friendship and they have the business.
When Quick’s son, Vaughan Webb returns – after seven years – from studying abroad with his law degree in hand, he’s back to claim what he’s always wanted…his fathers’ best friend… Duke Morgan. Vaughan has always claimed to be a classic gentleman with an old soul. He didn’t party and screw up in school like his buddies. He was focused and dedicated to becoming the man worthy of Duke’s love.
It’s a complex and messy situation as Duke and Quick figure out how to still be best friends when one of them is sleeping with his friend’s one and only son. But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke.
Part I of the Promises story is about Duke and Vaughan. Part II will be about Quick and his realization that it’s not too late for any of them to find love.
This is my first A.E. Via read and I am so happy that I was able to review Promises. I love M/M Romance and it’s very hard for me to pick one up get into the story. Promises was a very sweet and loving story that brought 2 souls together under uncommon circumstances.
I was excited to see an older man, Duke with a younger man, Vaughn. Even with their age difference I felt that the author did a great job with bringing these 2 characters together in such a way that was believable. My heart fell in love with Duke from the start. Not only is he a man’s man but he is also a big teddy bear. He doesn’t believe in love and needs someone to show him that it is out there and does exist you just have to open your eyes to the possibility of it. Vaughn who happens to be much younger than Duke is an old soul. He has always been in love with his fathers best friend and is far more mature than most men his age. He is a very determined character and has his eyes set on what he wants and won’t stop until he gets him.
I loved the different dynamics between Duke and Vaughn. The push and pull, give and take and the undeniable lust that flowed between them. The storyline was well written and more of a journey towards their budding relationship than the journey of their relationship. Now don’t worry they do get together but boy do they have to go through hell and back to make it happen and at times I was afraid that Duke’s stubbornness would stand in the way of the love he has always been longing for.
Okay Okay so I will be 100% honest – did I want a little more steamy scenes? Of course because lets face it they are extremely hot. However, with that being said I think the author took their journey and relationship in the direction and pace it needed to go in. I would LOVE to get a short novella with these 2 boys in it for some more of their “private” moments because those that we did get to enjoy were INTENSE.
Overall, Promises was a very sweet and loving love story about finding love in someone that you would never expect. Waiting for the right person to finally come back into your life and sweep you off your feet. A.E. Via did an excellent job and giving us the love, lust, suspense, and steam that we all enjoy. I cannot WAIT for Part 2 which I am seriously hoping digs into Quick and the good Ol’ Doctor because THAT book is going to be FUN! So yes I would most defiantly recommend this series and start now so you can be 100% ready for Part 2 – which I am HOPING is releasing VERY VERY soon (hint hint A.E)
