He was my older brother’s best friend.
He was never supposed to be mine.
I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.
One of us did.
One of us left.
Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.
He broke my heart last time.
This time he’ll obliterate it.
This is a standalone
Smiling. That is what I did for hours after I finished this book. I finished it in one setting (stayed up WAY too late), because I knew it was a standalone and just kept needing more. I wanted to know more. I wanted them to be happy. I NEEDED them to smile, which would hopefully leave me smiling. And it was a roller coaster of emotions from the past and the present to get there, but it was that much more beautiful knowing the road that they took to find forever was not easy. You can’t help but fall in love with Oliver, he had me from the beginning.
“They say the best way to move on is to let go. As if letting go is the easy part. As if trying to dim or erase three years of memories, good and bad, is something you can do in one day.”
Moving forward after a tragedy is not easy. It is hard to find perspective, and it is hard to believe you can ever actually move forward. Elle thought she had found it all in Wyatt. She had found her forever, but now she is starting over. Losing him to tragedy has shattered her heart, and she has no idea if she can ever love again. How do you move forward?
Moving in with her brother is not in her “plan” but it is the best thing for Elle. She knows he will support her and let her heal. She can’t live in her and Wyatt’s house anymore and try to move forward. But when Oliver, her brother’s best friend and her first love, walk back into her life she is left confused. She knows he is bad news. He crushed her heart before and left her without a word. How can she put her heart through that again. Is she even ready? Will she ever be ready?
“Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about Oliver Hart, but the only one worth remembering, is that he’s bad for my health.”
Her feelings for Oliver only lead to more confusion. Is she betraying everything her and Wyatt had? Can she ever trust Oliver to not just leave her again, looking for answers she will never find? So many emotions come to the surface when she is around him. She remembers the amazing and the horrible moments from their past, but she also remembers how he was always there when she needed him. And now he is there for her again when she needs him the most. But is she ready for love again? Will she ever be ready? Or will Oliver crush her heart again.
“Some things never change,” I say. His eyes darken. “Sometimes they get better.”
There are so many things I can’t say (or won’t say) because you need to experience it, read it for yourself. You will fall in love with the words and the characters. Kaleidoscope Hearts is a journey. Every word has a meaning, and every chapter will touch your soul just a little bit more. Finding a place in your heart that it will stay forever. Claire Contreras has brought a whole new meaning to the words “a love story.” Fall in love with Oliver (who is my new book boyfriend- love him)! This is a must read!
“Life is short, and brutal, and painful, and it takes loved ones away from us as quickly as it brings them into our lives, but it’s also beautiful.”
