Book Review: Heart Breaker (The Heart Breaker Series #1) by Cole Saint James

Get high.

Sounds like the perfect day to Aidan Callahan. As second-born son to Chicago’s most influential business owner, Aidan’s life has always been about responsibility. Tradition. Toeing the goddamn line. Just do as you’re told, Aidan. Don’t make waves.

Well, screw that. Riding waves is way more fun than making them.

Hawaii is paradise on earth. Smoking hot women. Tiny bikinis. As far as Aidan’s concerned, wild horses couldn’t drag him kicking and screaming back to the windy city. Or at least that’s what he thought.

When his brother crashes his Mercedes, killing himself on impact, Aidan finds himself next in line to the Callahan fortune and all the ties that come with it.

And this time there’s no getting out of it.

A warm bed.

A steady job.

A brother who loves her.

For Essie Gray, life’s been one hard kick in the teeth after another. With her parents both dead, her brother is her only living relative. That is until Vaughn’s truck is written off, his life snatched away by the careless actions of a rich playboy in a flashy sports car.

Now, the only thing that will bring Essie peace is revenge. She must take what was taken from her. Only when the name Callahan has been wiped from the face of the earth forever will she be able to start living again.

Of course, the new head of the Callahan Corporation isn’t what she expected. Aidan’s sexy and sad, and just as damaged as she is. Will she be able to distance herself enough to accomplish her goal?

After all, ruining a man’s really hard when you find yourself falling for him…

4 star review-2

Heart Breaker is written by a male author Cole Saint Jaimes, I personally have never read anything written by a male. Let’s just say I was intrigued by the cover and the synopsis, I wondered would I enjoy the writing style by a male’s perspective, I loved it.
It’s a page turner, from the prologue to the very last page. Heart Breaker is book one of the two and does end in little bit of cliffy.

Essie Gray’s parents are both deceased, her brother Vaughn is her only living relative. It’s always been just the two of them for most of their lives, Vaughn has always taking care of Essie, their love for each other is unconditional. Things are finally looking up for the two both have steady jobs, an apartment together, until one tragic night Essie get’s a call that will forever change her life. An accident has ripped her world upside down and taking the one person in life she has left, Vaughn.
Essie’s life spirals into depression, left alone, she doesn’t care about anything, life without Vaughn is unbearable. The only thing she can focus on is getting her revenge for her brother’s death, the only living family member left of the Callahan’s, Aidan.

Aidan Callahan life consist of surfing, getting high, f@*cking, and repeat. He was the second born son to Chicago’s most influential business owner. Aidan is living in Hawaii living the life he chose, his father and brother don’t agree with his decision they want him with them in Chicago, side by side running the company.
The life Aidan knows will change in a blink of an eye when he gets a call he’s not expecting to ever get, your brother and your parents have all died in a tragic accident, and another driver of a truck was fatally involved as well.

“Five years have passed and I still haven’t forgotten what happened. Haven’t forgotten the pain of losing my brother.”

Fast forward and it’s five years later Essie will finally meet Aidan, it’s taking her this long to plot out her revenge. She’s seeking revenge on a man who has nothing to do with the accident involving her brother, in her eyes he has everything to do with it. Essie, was left as a shell of a woman, she’s angry, bitter and wants Aidan to pay for taking away brother. Unbeknownst to Essie, Aidan has been keeping an eye on her.

What will happen when Essie and Aidan meet, will she still want revenge or will she see Aidan for the man he really is, a man who turned his life around after a tragedy?

“It won’t just be his end. It will be mine too.”
