Book Review: Focus on Me (In Focus #2) by Megan Erickson

Focus on MeSynopsis

Colin Hartman can now add college to his list of failures. On the coast-to-coast trek home from California, Colin stops at a gas station in the Nevada desert, and can’t help noticing the guy in tight jeans looking like he just stepped off a catwalk. When he realizes Catwalk is stranded, Colin offers a ride.

Riley only intended to take a short ride in Colin’s Jeep to the Grand Canyon. But one detour leads to another until they finally find themselves tumbling into bed together. However there are shadows in Riley’s eyes that hide a troubled past. And when those shadows threaten to bury the man whom Colin has fallen in love with, he vows to get Riley the help he needs. For once in his life, quitting isn’t an option…

Focus on Me was not only a truly beautiful love story between 2 broken souls but it also touched on a more serious topic that will break your heart. Even though the chemistry between Colin and Riley was undeniable from the start there were demons and challenges that stopped both men from going after what deep down they both craved.

For Riley nothing in life was what he needed. He wanted to feel and he set out on his own journey to find somewhere that would make him realize that life is worth living. Struggling almost his entire life with a darkness so thick it completely consumes him he has little to no hope that his journey will lead him to a normal existence.

When Colin first meets Riley at a gas station on the West coast and offers him a ride he never imagined that one quiet and sad looking man could change his life forever. Colin is a strong character, he is a giver and in many ways hard on himself. He keeps people at a distance because he believes that in some way he will fail and end up hurting anyone he gets close with.

Colin and Riley’s journey together will not only teach them to face their demons but also challenge them to fight for what they want. Colin will discovery that he is needed more than he could ever know. Life put Riley in his path for a reason and he doesn’t have a choice, he can’t fail or it could cost Riley everything.

Riley broke my heart. He endures and suffers from something so many people face everyday. Deep down I believe he is a beautiful character with a lost soul and needs help finding it. He isn’t sure where this journey will take him and once he meets his final destination it could either be the very beginning for him or the end could provide him with the answer he has been searching for.

Their relationship is a slow and beautiful build. Megan did such a wonderful job portraying these two characters with words that will steal your breath away and pull all the your emotions to the surface. The connection to each other was explosive, a whole lot of steam mixed with a whole lot of sweet. Overall this story will make you think and feel every ounce of their pain and confusion. You will hear all their silent fears and screams. Even though this story broke my heart I found myself wanting to know what happened next. I was invested to the point where Colin and Riley became my family and I wanted nothing more than to see these 2 find what they were searching for with each other.

If you are looking for a beautifully broken love story that will make you feel then I would highly recommend reading Focus on Me by Megan Erickson. This was my first read by this author but I can tell you that it will not be my last.
