Synopsis

What happens when in order to win, you’re forced to lose?

The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp, Raven Morretti grew up an outsider. Liberated from the neglectful home of her prostitute mother, she finds solace as a mechanic. With few friends, she’s content with the simple life. Flying under the radar is all she knows, and more than she expects.

Until she catches the eye of local celebrity, UFL playboy Jonah Slade.

Weeks away from his title fight, Jonah is determined to stay focused on everything he’s trained so hard to achieve. Undefeated in the octagon, he’s at the height of his career. But resisting Raven’s effortless allure and uncomplicated nature is a fight he can’t win.

Jonah trades in his bad-boy reputation and puts his heart on the line. But when her father contacts her, setting in motion the ugly truth of her destiny, Jonah must choose. In a high-stakes gamble where love and freedom hang in the balance, a war is waged where the price of losing is a fate worse than death.

Will the hotheaded Jonah be able to restrain his inner fighter to save the woman he loves?

Or will Raven be forced into a life she’s been desperate to avoid?

5 Star Review

I started this book with very little information about it other than it was a recommendation, knowing that I dig MMA and hot tattooed alpha males. I didn’t read the synopsis, check the author or other review pages to see how many stars it had. I just dove in. It’s kind of a treat to go into a book cold like that every once in awhile. No preconceived notions or expectations. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but I’m tellin’ ya …. This time I struck gold!

Raven has learned from a young age that she cannot rely on anyone but herself. With a big time pimp she has never met for a father and a prostitute mother that could care less about her, she has always been on her own. She works in a little mechanic shop owned by Guy, the closest thing to family she has, with the exception of her best friend Eve. She is obsessed with anything to do with cars and spends her free time in the garage which is her sanctuary, her home. She goes to work one day thinking it’s going to be just like any other …. Till her world is turned upside down.

“Sanity gone, fan-girl lust-buckets owning and operating my mind, I bite back an audible swoon”
Jonah Slade is the man to watch in the UFL. Moving up fast, he is tough, undefeated, determined and sexy as sin. To him, he has the ultimate job and the perfect life. He loves the ladies and the ladies love him. He has no interest in being tied down to one woman and keeps his trysts as unemotional and unconnected as he can. He meets Raven, feels an instant, unexpected attraction and finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her by his side.

“I force myself to turn away from her piercing gaze. One more second locked in those eyes would have me worshiping at her feet, begging for just the tiniest taste of her perfect mouth”

As the book goes along, they find themselves getting closer and closer. Everything is going well until situations and people threaten to pull them apart. I like how they compliment each other. Jonah learns what it is to put someone else and their well being above his own and Raven realizes she can actually let people in and have them take care of her.

“I need her to understand that her life means more than my own. I’d give it all away: every dream, every accomplishment. Everything for her.”

The book moves at a great pace. You will enjoy it even if you aren’t big into MMA. There is lots of action, steamy scenes and I love the way the guys interact with each other. The characters that are in the book are easy to get attached to and some are extremely easy to hate. I want to know WHERE guys like this exist, because it certainly isn’t in my neighborhood, let alone my city. They are fierce, protective of their own, and smokin’ hot. Clearly I need to make a trip back to Vegas!

“When God hands you a gift, you don’t push it away and tell him ‘later’

It’s a beautiful story of growth & unconditional love. I was hooked right from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. Blake is so swoony that I cant wait to get my hands on him in the 2nd book in the series: Fighting to Forgive.

Thanks JB, a definite 5 Star read!
