Book Review – Dirty Red by Tarryn Fisher

Dear Opportunist,

You thought you could take him from me, but you lost. Now, that he’s mine I’ll do anything to keep him. Do you doubt me? I have everything that was supposed to be yours. In case you were wondering; he doesn’t ever think about you anymore. I won’t let him go….ever.

Dirty Red

Leah Smith finally has everything she has ever wanted. Except she doesn’t. Her marriage feels more like a loan than a lifelong commitment, and the image she has worked so hard to build is fraying before her eyes. With a new role and a past full of secrets, Leah must decide how far she is willing to go to keep what she has stolen.

Amanda’s 4 Star Review

Dirty Red was just a little off for me.  Maybe because I HATED Leah, or that I was just so annoyed and angry with her for how she treated the baby.  I’m not sure but some things just didn’t work for me.  I wanted more with Caleb and Olivia and when I got that. . . It was great!  But I am hopeful, because sometimes in series there is always that book that you just don’t like but it is needed for the whole back story to be complete.  I am pushing forward and ready for more!
“I wondered what stupid bitch let him go. Whoever she was, I would wipe her from his memory in no time at all.”
Leah Smith saw an opportunity when she met Caleb Drake.  And she took it!  She never knew so many obstacles would come from trapping a man who was in love with someone else, but she isn’t EVER letting him go!
She finally feels like she won!  Caleb chose her!   Now they are having a baby and they are happy. . .right?  Not exactly!  Leah was for sure she was having a boy, but surprise she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Estella.  Leah immediately is jealous of the attention she gets from Caleb, and feels no maternal feelings.  SHE IS THE WORST MOTHER EVER!  It literally tore me apart reading some of the things she does!
But as everything she has “stolen” and fought for begins to crumble, she has to decide how far will she go to deceive him into staying with her?  Can she manipulate him again?  Or will everything fall apart?  Can she keep what was never hers to begin with?
“I didn’t choose her,” his voice breaks. “Love is illogical. You fall into it like manhole. Then you’re just stuck. You die in love more than you live in love.” ~ Caleb
We once again get to read about the past and the present which helps you understand how Leah became so . . .awful!  We meet new characters and get to see new sides of old ones, which I loved!  You will understand many things that were left open in the first book, but I can feel there is more!  Very anxious for the next book. . .I need to know how it all ends!!!
