Book Review: Dirty Nails by Regina Bartley

From the outside looking in, this life may seem jacked up. People may think that I’ve completely lost my mind. They only see the bruises. They don’t know that Maxwell Costin saved my life, and that I owe him everything. I’m alive because of him. So when he tells me to keep my mouth shut, and do what he says then that’s exactly what I do. And if anyone asks about the dirty bodies, the dirty floors, or Max’s dirty hands, I know nothing. Even if the man asking is dark and dangerously sexy. I will not break. Try me…

Fourteen ears ago Shay’s life changed in the blink of an eye. Seeing your parents murdered has a nasty effect on a growing girl.  Now her world is so closed off from those on the outside.  Max, her dad’s best friend comes to her rescue and takes her home to live with him.  At first e was her protector, then her lover, but all along he has kept her hidden away.  Only being aloud to leave the compound under full disguise every few months, while under Max’s watchful eye.  Shay is constantly followed, a bodyguard is with her at all times and she is forced to preform for Max’s clients.
When her new body guard has her starting to question her care and relationship with Max, only then does Shay really begin to realize that maybe, just maybe she is being held captive.  The only thing that releases her from all her pain, is her nails.  They make all the hurt, anguish and pain go away.  She forgets about all the fear, anger and suffering that she has experienced at the hands of Max.
Little does Shay know, but her new bodyguard knows her from years ago.  Will she let him and and allow him to save her, the way she should have been saved all those years ago.
This may just be Regina Bartley’s best novel to date. This book is a breath of fresh air.  Bartley writes about a subject that it not seen much in romance books to date.  I could not put it down.  You get to see first hand what it is like for someone to have a complete break down and the method of coping that is needed to deal with it.  There are so many people out there in the world today who suffer and put themselves in harms way to release that pain.  Be it drugs, cutting, drinking and more.  Shay has to learn to deal with her nightmare.  It started fourteen years ago and has yet to end.  I found Dirty Nails to be very well written, gut wrenching, angsty and bittersweet.  Will Shay ever have the life that she so desperately deserves?  Grab your copy today and get whisked away into a word or hot, sexy, alpha males and the chance at a new life after destruction.  5 Big Gripping Edgy Stars. I highly recommend this book!
