Book Review – The Destiny of Violet and Duke by Jessica Sorenson

Destiny of Violet and Luke

Synopsis
Luke Price’s life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. For Luke, meaningless relationships are a distraction-a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He desperately wishes he could forget his past, but it haunts him no matter what he does.

Violet Hayes has had a rough life. When she was young, she was left with no family and the memory of her parents’ unsolved murders. She grew up in foster homes, living with irresponsible parents, drugs, and neglect, and trying to fight the painful memories of the night her parents were taken from her. But it’s hard to forget when she never got closure-and she can’t stop dreaming about what happened that tragic night. To make it through life, she keeps her distance from everyone and never allows herself to feel anything.

Then Violet meets Luke. The two clash instantly, yet they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Although they fight it, they both start to open up and feel things they’ve never felt before. They discover just how similar they are. But they also discover something else: The past always catches up with you . . .

Four stars

This is the story of Luke and Violet from the Redemption of Callie and Kayden
Luke didn’t have it easy growing up, saw things and did things that no child should have to deal with. Luke lost his sister when he was twelve, these are just a few things you don’t get over and have you be mr happy go lucky. Luke decided good grades and football to get away from his mother and go to college where he is roommates with his best friend Kayden.

Violet had a tragic childhood her parents were taken from her at six years old and being shuffled around from foster home to foster home doesn’t teach you any sence of stability. She keeps quiet so no one will notice her she does what she has to do to pay for school even if it may not be legal her former foster parent has violet sell drugs to a few of her fellow classmates. One night violet makes a run for it (not the best idea) ends up having to jump from a second story window…… She literally falls into Luke’s arm (well technically she kicked him in the face) this starts the how do I know you …….

“Wait…. I’ve seen you around at UW we have chemistry together” ….”and I think your Callie Lawrence’s roommate”

“Violet…something or other”. ~ Luke

“And your Luke Price. The stoically aloof and somewhat intense man whore/ football player who dorms it up with Kayden Owens” ~Violet

“Wait…stoically aloof?”

“What the hell does that mean?” ~Luke

This is the start of what I would call a beautiful disaster. Both have grown up in horrible situations not wanting to love because they have either lost it or never had it to begin with. Doesn’t make for a great relationship, But hey why not try they seem to understand what each other is going through.

“So besides the fact that you like to walk around worh blond sluts in the dark and force your way into people’s lives what do you like to do ?” ~violet

“I thought you already knew what I did- play football, help damsels in distress, walk around being stoically aloof” ~ Luke

“Touch√©, Luke Price.”

I loved there one on one whitty banter they seem to challenge each other but bring the best out of each other. Of course all good things don’t always stay that way, because they always wait for the other shoe to drop its how they lived. They get close and really start to open up to each other, but when they realize there paths may have crossed long before they met can they overcome more obstacles. Or are they meant to be damaged for life with out any chance at happiness.
Read this four star read to find out ***warning this does have a cliffhanger!!
