4 Star Review
AWAKE: to emerge or rouse from sleep; wake…to become or cause to become alert.
Lili Porter is twenty seven from a small town Wrangel, she worked with underprivileged and abused children at a crisis center. After she experienced a horrendous tragedy she needed an escape, leaving her family and her position behind, Lili moved to Philadelphia, her best friend Sierra begged her to get out that town. She stared working as a case manager for the Philadelphia Hospital. Lili felt a new job and city would help her move on…little did she know just because you move away from your past it still follows you no matter what. She spends her days going through the motions not feeling anything, completely and utterly empty. She’s had the reality of pain, for her it’s safe not to feel any emotions. Enter Dr Chase Colton, who physically affects her, he may just be the one to awaken the Lili who’s been dead inside.
“I didn’t want to run away from any more of my life. I just wanted to feel. If that meant not always feeling happy, not always feeling comfortable, if it meant suffering through times of sadness and headache, then I was in. I wanted all in. If love was my only constant, then nothing mattered.”
Thirty six year old Dr Chase Colton “storm cloud grey eyes, dark chocolate hair, razored cheekbones”, sexy as all, arrogant, down right 100% alpha male. Chase came to Philadelphia to take a position as Chief of Neurosurgery at the Philadelphia Hospital. He’s very passionate about his work and expects no less from his team. He devotes himself to his work and patients, no one knows that the good Dr also suffers deep severe guilt from a horrendous tragedy that occurred fifteen years ago. Chase also has demons from his part and is broken just like Lili.
“This man was intimidating beyond belief, everything about him screamed hard.”
“His body was a work of erotic art. If there was a museum of hot bodies, he’d be the featured exhibit. I would have bought a lifetime membership.”
Lili and Chase are drawn to each from their first kiss they both felt something, neither could resist one another. As their relationship progresses, Lili must return to her hometown to testify in a case she was involved with, Chase accompanies her. When Lili’s past comes crashing down on her, with the truth out her biggest fear is losing Chase the one person in her life who she finally trust. Chase still harbor’s his own past and now he must come to terms with Lili’s. My heart broke for the two of them at this point in the book.
“Lili, truth. We are worth it.”
Will Chase be able to move past this and accept Lili….and help her out of the dark and find her light?
Chase is still a mystery to Lili she is determined to help him come to terms with his past, when it does come out holy shit let me just say it’s so dark, you’ll feel like someone just ripped your heart out and stomped all over it. I imagine that’s how Chase felt everyday of his life. How can one man have so much pain in his life and move forward?
Can Lili help Chase out his dark and find his light?
Will Lili finally stop “sleep running” and find herself “Beautifully Awake”?
“I’m not going anywhere, baby. I want you awake and I definitely want our life playing out live because I don’t want to miss a fucking second of it.”
Let me mention the sex scenes are beyond HOT, you may want to keep an extra pair of panties near by just in case. The shower scene OMG hottest ever!!!!
The secondary characters in the book were all excellent, the hospital staff, Asher… Chase’s best friend and lawyer, and Sierra she was absolutely hysterical.
Riley Mackenzie are two best friends who together wrote their debut novel, the story was brilliant, heartbreaking, just enough mystery, suspense…. you will be hooked from the very first page right until the very end.
I looked forward to reading the next in the series “Beautifully Done” Asher’s story.
“When all I saw was darkness, when I thought there was nothing left but pitch black, your shinning blue eyes rescued me from that hell. I don’t deserve you, baby, not for one fucking second, but the fact that you want me for who I am, the fact that you love me makes actually believe that one day I might forgive myself.”
